Main Street Movies 5 will open a five-screen, state-of-the-art movie theater with reserved, reclining seats and refreshments from local vendors at the Newark (DE) Shopping Center in August of 2016. The new theater will replace the shuttered Newark Cinema Center, which operated from the early 1960’s through October of 2015. Main Street Movies 5 has signed an 18,000 square foot lease with Atlantic Realty Companies of Tysons, VA, which acquired the Newark Shopping Center four years ago in partnership with New York City-based Angelo, Gordon & Co.
Atlantic Realty Companies has leased a 17,430 square foot, two-level space in its newly renovated 150,000 SF Newark (DE) Shopping Center to Newark Natural Foods Co-operative, which provides locally sourced, healthy foods to more than 4,000 households. The co-op also operates a café in its space at 230 East Main Street and has launched a popular Sunday farmer’s market. Newark Natural Foods is the latest tenant in the recently renovated center, owned by a partnership of Tysons-based Atlantic Realty and New York-based Angelo, Gordon & Co.
National multifamily housing developer The Bainbridge Companies is expanding its footprint into communities that are home to larger universities with two new residential developments scheduled for delivery from late 2015 through mid-2016. Campus Circle Urbana, located directly across the street from the University of Illinois, will offer 181 apartments. Bainbridge Delaware will have 220 apartments within walking distance of the City of Newark’s vibrant Main Street and the University of Delaware.
The Chesapeake Crescent Initiative (CCI), a public-private collaborative founded six years ago to support technological innovation, is leading a “Safe + Smart Cities” coalition to help cities optimize their operational performance and harden their resiliency through the efficient use of technology. The coalition has selected the city of Newark, Delaware for its first pilot, to be followed by a second one to be announced later this fall.
