LHB Communications worked with Streetsense to prepare the applications that won Clarion Partners two top awards from the Northern Virginia chapter of NAIOP. Osteria Marzano, a new restaurant at Clarion’s Metro Park VI building in Alexandria, VA won the Award of Excellence for Best Interiors –Retail Project. Team members included The Evans Company, Collective Architecture, and LF Jennings.
In the same LEED Platinum building, a winner in last year’s competition, the new rooftop lounge garnered an Award of Merit for Best Interiors – Building Common Area. Team members included The Evans Company, Lehman Smith McLeish, and HITT Contracting.
Clarion’s concept for Osteria Marzano was to offer a white-tablecloth destination restaurant that would support tenants’ business and social needs. For this reason, the restaurant was designed to appeal to a wide-ranging demographic, including adults of all ages as well as families. Italian-born Chef Carmine Marzano and his daughter Elena Pouchelon worked closely with the design team to create the warm and elated feeling of being among friends and family at an Italian dinner party. The space features a massive 35-seat bar with a wood-fire pizza oven at one end, allowing guests to watch chefs at work.
While Clarion originally envisioned tenant use of the rooftop deck at Metro Park VI, they realized that this unique space had far more potential. They successfully transformed the rooftop area into a trophy-quality lounge that rivals any in downtown office building. The design concept extends Metro Park’s master landscaping plan to the rooftop with full-grown trees mixed with low-level plantings in a brilliant variety of colors. The design provides multiple experience scenarios in several defined areas: lounge seating, dining, and bar. The focal point of the dining area is a large communal dining table with a gas fireplace in its center, allowing year-round use and adding an element of drama to the spectacular views.
